Day #2 Prayer Focus – Putting Off the Old Self
“Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” Colossians 3:5-10
Since we have been raised to new life by the power of the gospel, let us make every effort to put off our old selves, with its practices as we are being renewed in the image of Christ.
Therefore, please pray for our church family:
- for repentant hearts to confess our sin and trust that the Lord is faithful and just to forgive us of our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (cf. 1 John 1:9).
- that in this New Year we would flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace in the power of the Holy Spirit (cf. Gal 5:16; 2 Tim 2:22).
- that we would guard our hearts and mouths from corrupt speech or conduct and speak only words that build one another up and extend grace (cf. Eph 4:29).
- that we would resolve to regularly read and meditate on the Word of God to guard our hearts from sin (cf. Psalm 119:11).
- that we would commit ourselves to one another in close fellowship in the church to encourage and exhort each other in the way of righteousness (cf. Heb 3:13).
“Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! Do not let my heart incline to any evil, to busy myself with wicked deeds” (Psalm 141:3-4).
