GROW Conversation Cafes

English is an essential tool to build relationships and earn an income here in America. GROW provides ESL (English as a Second Language) classes for immigrants in Philadelphia. These English classes help adult immigrants develop more than just the practical skill of English, but they cultivate friendships and connections, supporting immigrant families to succeed in their communities. Once a month these adult English Language Learners (ELL) practice their English in the Conversation Cafés. These are held in Northeast Philadelphia one morning and one evening a month. Volunteers are paired with a small group of ELL students and given suggested topics to discuss. The following are the upcoming dates and times of the Conversation Cafes:

Monday, 9/26 @ 7:30pm-8:30pm

Tuesday, 9/27 @ 11am-12pm

Wednesday, 10/26 @ 7:30pm-8:30pm

Thursday, 10/27 @ 11am-12pm

If you have any questions or are interested in using your skill of English to gain cross cultural experience and develop relationships with our immigrant neighbors, please contact Gwen Rapp.

Thanksgiving Meals

Date: Friday, November 18

Time: 6-8pm

Location: A Church of Living Hope (1271 E. Maple Ave, Langhorne, PA 19047)

Productive Lives, A Church of Living Hope, and Parkland Community Church are putting together Thanksgiving meals for families in need. We are raising money for turkey gift cards as well as the following 3 food items: cornbread boxes (like Jiffy), turkey gravy packets, and instant potatoes. If you are interested in donating the above food items or financially, please contact Kristy Godwin.

The Food Center at Morrisville Presbyterian Church

Date: Sign up monthly

Time: Various Times

Location: Morrisville Presbyterian Church Food Center

(771 North Pennsylvania Avenue, Morrisville, PA 19067)

The Food Center provides supplemental food assistance to those in the Lower Bucks and greater Trenton communities. There are opportunities to donate as well as serve.

Food Donations

The most needed items include spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, canned fruit, box of cereal, can of meat entrée (like stew), and tuna fish. Other items include 1 pound pasta, canned vegetables, boxed macaroni & cheese, shelf stable milk, canned soup, 1-2 pounds of rice, and canned beans. These can be dropped off at Morrisville Presbyterian Church at the following times: Mondays at 7pm, Tuesdays at 10am, and Wednesday 9-11am. You may also bring in items to Riverstone Church and drop in the collection box.

Food Center Volunteers

There are opportunities at MPC Food Center to prepare food, set-up for packing, pack bags, and distribute food. The times vary from morning to evening. Sign up to volunteer this month

If you are interested in learning more how you can be a part of this ministry, you can visit the MPC website at or contact Frank Rhoades.

Food Distribution in Kensington

Every Thursday from 9–11am, Productive Lives and Cornerstone Community Church partner together to hand out food and water in the Kensington community. Contact Cam Garvin (267-566-0225) if you are interested or have any questions.

Operation Christmas Child

Collection Week: November 14-21, 2022

OCC starts with you packing a shoebox full of necessary items and toys, and it ends in a child around the world not only receiving that gift but hearing the gospel of Jesus. On October 23, Riverstone Church will provide empty shoe boxes for you to take home, fill with supplies, and return to the church by November 13. Everyone is invited to take as many shoeboxes as you can fill! These shoeboxes are then distributed by Samaritan’s Purse to children in countries that are unreached and remote. Each child who receives a shoe box not only hears the gospel but participates in a 12-week discipleship program, transforming families.

Would you like to volunteer to help? Since Riverstone is one of 7 drop-off locations in the Bucks County area, we will be collecting, counting, recording, and “cartonizing” boxes from the community at scheduled times from November 14-21. We are looking for volunteers to help with receiving and recording these boxes.

If you are interested, please sign up on online or contact Kristy Godwin if you have any questions.
